The Covid-19 Pandemic undoubtedly disrupted life across America, but it also illuminated stark inequities present in our society. While a significant portion of the blame lies with the Trump Administration’s response to the pandemic, it’s not without accomplices. The United States is the oldest Democratic Republic globally, and its vitality depends on an informed society. Unfortunately, we have to figure out a way of not reveling in stupid behavior in the name of individualism. America demands responsibilities before she’s able to defend the rights of her children.

Americans are suffering at the hands of broken institutions, and we should help them. Generational poverty, voter suppression, institutions of government obstructing the rule of law aren’t problems exclusive to any one race. They are everyone’s problem. The United States is not a theocracy, and our government shouldn’t use religious texts as the basis for public policy justification. Ever. Any discussion about what the Holy Bible does or doesn’t condone is a distraction.

The problem with American politics is that the party’s idea becomes intertwined with the identity of the individual. Any criticism of the idea is equated as a direct personal attack rather than constructive criticism, Rendering both sides incapable of communicating. One side strives to prioritize insider uniformity and security in the face of outsiders. The others believe insider power (associated with corporations and a predominantly white power structure) is the main threat to society. The issue isn’t locating middle ground but convincing both sides to move towards the middle. Conservatives believe any concession will irreversibly harm America. Liberals fear the complicity of blatant ethnocentrism. Neither of which are remotely true. Unfortunately, the notion of compromise was eradicated by gerrymandering, allowing politicians to pick their voters.

Two parties defined American politics comprised of the middle class, characterized by a class divide, racial divide, and regional divide, fighting hyperbolically at the 50-yard line. Both the Democratic and Republican parties are the most important ideologies that advocate for dignity and freedom in our history. Unfortunately, both parties aren’t immune to corruption. At the present moment, factions of voters are directly influenced by billion-dollar industries that profit from the instigating division control congress.

President Trump successfully hijacked the GOP primary by observing the reality of America and doubling down on the energy the late Senator John McCain refused to invoke. Donald and Bernie were the same messengers in that they were informing the public on what they already suspected. That the government was ripping them off, both trafficked in lies, with Donald declaring Mexico would finance the border wall, and Bernie promising free shit without tax increases. To her detriment, Secretary Clinton was the perfect archetype of what was wrong with the American political system.

The GOP’s unwillingness to confront President Trump is an abdication of responsibility that’s historic and disgusting. The United States should not separate children from parents; that’s a practice we’ve allowed during slavery and the genocide of the Native American population. We can only make progress on our past faults by learning from our mistakes, not repeating them.

For example, conservatives, and especially Trump supporters, must be willing to tolerate an inflow of immigrants that is greater than they would like. At the same time, liberals must be willing to accept an influx of immigrants that is less than they would like. Conservatives will need to recognize that meaningful police reforms are necessary, while liberals will need to remember that reforms will never go far enough for their liking.

The division present in the country has been exported and perpetuated by news networks and talk radio. The role the press plays in the safeguarding of the institutions of the Democratic Republic has been forgotten. During the last two decades, News networks became the drivers for facets of the two political parties. They transformed from being covered by the network to becoming an appendage of the network β€” integrating politicians from the campaign trail into the contributor desk. Politics became entertainment, and the actual issues we face as a country took a back seat because they were boring and didn’t increase ratings.

Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms are currently the biggest threat to Democracy, even more so than Communism and Fascism. Falsehoods predicate communism and Fascism. When truth confronts a lie, the truth always wins.

Platforms like Facebook have obliterated the ability to distinguish the difference between a lie and the truth.

Western society has succeeded for a fucking reason. We figured out a long time ago that the individual is the primary sovereign in society, Not the church, not the race, not the gender. This one principle defines our entire moral and legal system, and our system is the envy of the world cause of it. Freedom of speech doesn’t mean anything unless you know what you’re saying and why.

Patriotism isn’t about loyalty to the government. Patriotism is about being loyal to the betterment of the American people. America is a promise, a pact, made with every citizen that bestows privileges. The United States of America is the inheritance one receives from the previous generation to be better β€” to pave the way for the next generation.
